Recharge this Autumn with a Scented Candle

With summer coming to a close and the crisp autumn weather taking centre stage, it’s time to recharge. 

For many of us, autumn is the busiest time of year. Whether it’s getting the kids back to school or preparing for the festive period in December, autumn can often take you off guard with how much there is to do. And while most of it is exciting, it’s still important to take a step back for the sake of your own wellbeing. This can be anything from reading a book to a daily meditation session. 

While most of us know that it’s important to take time for a little recharge, it can be surprisingly easy to forget. Setting the mood with a scented candle is a good way to relax from a busy day on your feet. There are a few scents that have been shown to provide enormous benefit to your mental health.

1. Rosemary

Rosemary is a fragrance with an enormous impact on our mental wellbeing. In the past, rosemary was often used as a traditional medicine because of its natural positive influence on mood and wellbeing. Recent studies have shown that inhaling the scent of rosemary actually reduces your cortisol levels and soothes anxiety, and can have positive benefits for anyone who suffers from seasonal depression. It also has the added benefit of improving memory and increasing overall alertness. If you’re fatigued after a long day, rosemary is the perfect way to settle in for the evening.

2. Sea Salt

The scent of sea salt evokes the feeling of walking along a peaceful seaside. Even though oceanside holidays are often associated with summer, an autumnal walk along a peaceful coastline might be just the thing to unwind a busy mind. A hot, relaxing bath with a sea salt candle is both relaxing and invigorating, giving you a much needed respite.

3. Pine

If you couldn’t tell from an afternoon walk in the woods, the aroma of pine trees is a natural mood booster. While it’s most popular during the festive season, it can actually be the perfect candle for the darker autumn period. Crisp scents like pine are a natural and unobtrusive way to wake you up when you’re feel groggy, not unlike mint or eucalyptus. When you need an uplift in mood and energy, pine is the perfect scented candle.

4. Ginger

Ginger is a bright, cheerful fragrance that goes a long way in energising you. It’s unique in that it’s both fresh and airy while also being warm and cosy. It’s the perfect fragrance to burn if you want your space to feel clean and refreshed, but it can also capture the essence of a freshly baked dessert. When combined with floral scents, this adds just a touch of zest that can help summer stay in your home just a little bit longer.
