FAQs
Where is Wild Ethos made?
Wild Ethos home fragrances are made in our workshop in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside, here in the UK.
Are Wild Ethos candles safe?
Wild Ethos candles are completely safe to use. Our high-quality blend of coconut wax, rapeseed and essential oils, together with our thick natural cotton wicks, ensure a superior, long-lasting and even burn. All our candles are tested to the highest UK safety standards.
How long do Wild Ethos Candles burn?
Wild Ethos candles will burn for approximately 40 hours. We recommend burning them for 3 to 4 hours at a time for optimum longevity. We advise that each time you burn your Wild Ethos candle, you wait for the wax on the surface to liquefy right to the edges before extinguishing the flame.
Do Wild Ethos candles contain paraffin?
Wild Ethos candles do not contain paraffin. They are made of a blend of sustainably sourced coconut wax, rapeseed and essential oils.
Do cheap candles burn faster?
At Wild Ethos, we strive to make our candles and diffusers as affordable as possible, but we will never compromise on quality. We only use the finest, sustainably sourced ingredients and our candles are rigorously tested to ensure they burn evenly, consistently and for a long time.
Is Wild Ethos vegan?
All Wild Ethos home fragrances are 100% vegan and cruelty-free.
What is the cleanest burning candle?
All Wild Ethos candles are made with Coconut Wax, which is an excellent non-toxic material that provides a long, clean and even burn.
What is the healthiest way to burn candles?
Before lighting a candle, we recommend that you trim the wick with a sharp pair of scissors to approximately 6mm height, to help control the flame. We suggest burning your Wild Ethos candle for 3 to 4 hours to begin with. It’s also best practice to ensure the surface of the wax is melted right to the edges each time before extinguishing the flame, which will maximise burn time.
Where not to burn candles?
Don’t light a candle near a draught as the flow of air might disrupt the flame, so avoid windows, fans, heaters, air conditioning units and the like. Keep your candle away from fabric such as curtains, drapes, furniture, carpets, books and anything flammable. Always keep candles out of reach of children and be sure to only light a candle in a secure space where there is no chance it could be knocked over. Lastly, never leave a burning candle unattended.
Why is the first burn of a candle so important?
The first burn of a candle is so important because unless the wax is left to liquefy right to the edges on the first light, tunnelling can occur. Tunnelling is where a ‘memory ring’ appears in the centre of the candle, leaving precious wax wasted up the sides of the vessel. You want to avoid this occurring, so your candle has maximum longevity and burns evenly.
Should you put the lid back on a candle after blowing it out?
After you’ve blown out your Wild Ethos candle, it’s a good idea to put the lid back on to prevent any dust or debris from gathering in the wax. However, it’s often nice to occasionally leave the lid off your scented candle as the fragrance in the wax will subtly permeate the air even when your candle is not lit.
How to stop a candle tunnelling?
Ensure that your wick is trimmed to an appropriate height. We recommend 6mm as the optimum height for Wild Ethos candle wicks. Secondly, burn your candle for 3 to 4 hours the first time you light it and only extinguish the flame when the wax has fully ‘pooled’ meaning it has liquified right to the edges.
What are reed diffusers and how do they work?
Reed diffusers consist of a vessel containing fragranced oil with reed sticks partially submerged in the oil. The reed sticks absorb and diffuse the oil, which in turn fragrances the surrounding space.
What not to do with a diffuser?
Do not eat or drink the oil and avoid contact with the skin. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Where should you not put a diffuser?
Don’t position your diffuser in direct sunlight or high heat, as this could cause the oil to evaporate. And don’t keep it within reach of children or pets, or anywhere it could be easily spilt. Try to position it in a spot where there is nothing above it, as the fragrance is dispensed in an upward motion.
How do I get the most out of my reed diffuser?
The best position for a reed diffuser is an area that will utilise the airflow in the room. We recommend somewhere relatively high up in an open space, so your fragrance will easily fill the room and the scent will travel with the circulation of the air. A kitchen or a hallway are ideal locations for this reason. We advise that you turn your reeds over every 30 days or so to prevent the fragrance oil from becoming stagnant. If they become dusty or clogged, you can simply wash them with warm soapy water.
Do reed diffuser sticks need to be replaced?
Wild Ethos reed diffuser sticks are made of sustainably sourced wood, which is a more sustainable option tp rattan and a more breathable material, too. Unlike other diffuser sticks, the wood we use is much less likely to discolour. If the reeds are turned every 30 days or so they should remain fresh, but should they require freshening up, you can simply wash them with warm soapy water. We recommend replacing them on an as-needed basis.
How do you refresh diffuser sticks?
We suggest that you flip your diffuser sticks every 30 days or so. If you find that they have gathered any dust or debris, you can wash them with warm soapy water.
Which diffuser smells best?
This is, of course, very much dependent on personal preference. Wild Ethos diffusers come in six different natural fragrances, so there’s something for everyone, whether you enjoy the sweet floral scent of honeysuckle on a warm day, the refreshing salty aroma of a coastal walk or the earthy notes of rosemary growing in the garden.
